I
wrote this originally as a two hour long radio play. Anyone who knows
about radio drama will know that two hours is just too long for a radio
play. Nevertheless I sent it in to ABC radio, the only people producing
radio drama in Australia.
The
play was a finalist in the Melbourne Pater Awards for Radio Comedy;
and it was a WINNER of the Ian Reed Radio Play prize for that year from
ABC. It was optioned by ABC to produce the play - though they asked
me to adapt it into a 4-part series, which is the version I have posted
here on the site.
After
about a year of mucking around, the series was all set to go into production
in the brand new Adelaide studios to best deal with all the sound effects
required, and ABC was considering the unprecedented move of flying me
(the mere writer) to Adelaide for the recording.
Litteraly
weeks before this was to happen the Comedy Unit in charge of the production
at ABC was dissolved, the play was then put on a shelf and was never
produced. Rights reverted back to me after another couple of years.
It
has yet to be produced.
I
am currently reworking the script as an animated feature film.
Any
serious expressions of interest in producing this script,
email me.
